Overview

How Do I Get LHP Email?
If you've chosen Plus or Elite levels of Lawyer HomePage services from Martindale-Hubbell, email services are included. If you've chosen the Basic level, you cannot add email service without upgrading to Plus or Elite — it's not available a-la-carte.

Why would I want LHP Email?
If you're an LHP subscriber, Martindale-Hubbell is already handling registration of your domain and hosting of your web site. LHP Email dovetails on this easy, one-stop solution, and allows you to send and receive email through accounts in your own domain name rather than, for example, generic accounts like 'bsmith@lawyers.com' or 'billsmith8456@aol.com'. From a business perspective, this helps level the playing field with some of your larger competitors, and improves the perceived professionalism of your email communications.

How would I access or use LHP Email?
LHP Email is accessible three ways; you may use one, all, or a combination.

Method Access User Friendly Secure Mail Storage/Backup Storage Limit Administration Capabilities  Encryption/Security
Lawyers-Mail.com Any Point Yes Yes 20 MB Low Provided*
POP3 Client* Home/Office Yes Customer Provided Customer Provided Medium Optional
IMAP Client* Home/Office Yes Customer Provided Customer Provided Medium - High Optional

*Legend: POP3 Client (Outlook Express, Eudora, Netscape Mail, Pegasus), IMAP Client (Outlook, Outlook Express etc.)

Note! * Encryption available only to browsers which support SSL encryption. Secure connection does not guarantee message security; secure connection means that data communications between secure email server and local browser or email client (which are properly configured) is encrypted, reducing the risk of eavesdropping. Data communications across a conventional, non-secure connection occur as clear-text. Maximizing message security involves encrypting the message itself so that only the recipient can read it, and is further enhanced by utilizing secure connections wherever possible. Security is addressed separately.

Password Management

a) How do I change my Password?

You can change your password at any time by taking the following steps:  Click the Options link, Click the Change Password link.

You'll need to type in your current password and the new password followed by a confirmation of the new password.  For added security

you'll be able specify a challenge question and it's corresponding answer, however the only required fields are those regarding the passwords.

b) I lost my Password, how do I reset it?

Lawyers-mail provides an administrative account for this purposes and more.  Someone in your office should be assigned to manage

all user accounts using this feature. Please contact your Email administrator to reset your password, or contact our Technical Support

Department at 1-800-526-4902 x8003 or email us at lhpdomains@martindale.com.

Troubleshooting

a) I'm using Outlook Express to check my email, and I get a password prompt every time I try to send an email.

Our Outgoing server is trying to authenticate the user but the User ID and / or Password are incorrect, as a result a login prompt

window is displayed so that the user makes the necessary corrections.  The users MUST type in the full email address  and the

correct password (Always in lower case) in order to send and receive email.  If the problem persists, please contact your Email

Administrator or contact us at  1-800-526-4902 x8003 or email us at lhpdomains@martindale.com.

b) I'm using Outlook Express /Outlook 2000+ to check my email, and I get a "Relaying Denied" or

"The Recipient has been rejected by the server" error  when I try to send an email.

Our Outgoing server is trying to authenticate the user but the User ID and / or Password are incorrect, or inexistent.  Please make

sure the "My server requires authentication" box is checked.  This box is located on the Account's properties window, on the Servers

Tab.  Please see image below.

c) I'm unable to receive email, all I get is the following error "Unable to process login info with server"

Our incoming mail server is trying to authenticate the user but the User ID and / or Password are incorrect, or inexistent. Please make sure you're typing the FULL email address and correct password on the POP3 (Incoming) mail server authentication section.  This should be located on the Servers tab of the Mail Account Properties box (see image above).  If the problem persists, please contact at  1-800-526-4902 x8003 or email us at lhpdomains@martindale.com.

d) I'm forwarding emails to my old address, but whoever sends me an email is getting an Undeliverable email back, why is this?

When new user accounts are created, they will have a letter [R] at the end of the name.  This means the new users need to login via the web interface and read the license agreement before the account becomes operative.  If the account has not been activated, it won't be able to forward to any address.  To activate any email address, the users must go to www.lawyers-mail.com. Click on "read and agree to the terms and conditions", scroll down to the bottom of the page and login using your full email address and password.

e) Senders get an email back that says "Command output: maildrop: maildir over quota" when they try to send me an email

Some customers using Outlook/Outlook Express decide to use a feature called " leave copy of email on the server".  Every time someone sends an email to them, they can receive it using their client, but a copy of that email stays on the server.  Since there is a limit of 20 MB per mailbox, once that number is reached the user won't be allowed to receive email, thus producing a returned email.  Please login to the web interface and delete all the email copies stored on the server.
